PRETORIA - A large police contingent with Oscar Pistorius in custody is at the Boschkop police station.

Pistorius's sister and his lawyer Kenny Oldwage are with the athlete.

Police will continue questioning him after he shot and killed his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.

It is being reported Pistorius will make his first court appearance within the next few hours.

MISTAKEN FOR A BURGLAR

The police’s Denise Beukes said Pistorius, who is fully cooperating with police, is traumatised by losing a person he said he was very close to.

While the police have not yet released details of what happened, it is understood that Pistorius had mistaken Steenkamp for a burglar.

Police are investigating after the young woman was shot in her arm and head with a 9mm pistol.

The police's Katlego Mogale said, "Paramedics had worked on her, but declared her dead on the scene. We also found the 9mm pistol."

FAMILY SHOCKED AT DEATH

Police said that a neighbour who heard the shots being fired in Pistorius's home immediately alerted police.

Steenkamp was shot between 4am and 5am at the athlete's Silver Woods Estate home in Pretoria.

The blonde model was declared dead on the scene by paramedics and her body was whisked away by a state mortuary vehicle.

Steenkamp's agent, Sarit Tomlinson said the model's family, who are in Port Elizabeth, were in shock and were waiting for more details of the incident.

Tomlinson said, "We are in communication with people at the scene, but there is far too much speculation at this time."

The model's last tweet on Wednesday is now trending on Twitter following the news of her death this morning.

She had posted that she was excited about her Valentine's Day plans and wanted to know what others had up their sleeves.

Fellow models and producers of the magazine show, The Link, have already tweeted their condolences.

This is a developing story and will be updated as information becomes available.
