BREDASDORP - Dozens of community members and media on Monday descended on the Bredasdorp Regional Court, ahead of the appearance of two men accused of raping and murdering teenager Anene Booysen.

The 17-year-old was gang-raped and mutilated more than a week ago.

She later died in hospital from her injuries, but not before identifying one of her alleged rapists.

While the two suspects are expected to step into the dock this morning, the court is packed to capacity.

The local community, along with the rest of the country, has been left outraged by the incident.

Both men, who are in their early 20s, face rape and murder charges.

Their first appearance is expected to be short, and their case will be postponed to Tuesday where all three men will appear together for the first time.

The first suspect was arrested more than a week ago, and his case was last week postponed to 12 February.

The state wants to consolidate the three men’s cases, so they can be tried together.

The Department of Justice has indicated it wants to fast-track the matter so that it can eventually be heard in the Western Cape High Court.
