JOHANNESBURG – Eyewitness News has learnt that three rhino were on Saturday killed on a game farm in the North West.

The three rhino are believed to have been poached near the Finfoot Lake Reserve where 8 rhino cows were targeted by poachers last year.

Anti-poaching teams are now searching for the poachers, but it's unclear exactly when the animals were killed.

The Hawks said a team is en route to the farm to collect evidence amid fears that more carcasses may be discovered.

RHINO STATISTICS ON THE RISE

The latest rhino poaching statistics show 85 rhinos have been killed since the beginning of 2013.

Rhinos were killed in Kruger National Park, KwaZulu-Natal, North West, Mpumalanga, and Limpopo provinces.

A total of 21 people have so far been arrested crimes against rhinos.

In 2012, 80 rhinos were killed during the first 59 days of the year while 83 rhinos were killed during the first 95 days of 2011.
