CAPE TOWN - The acting mayor of the Drakenstein Municipality says a Democratic Alliance (DA) councillor who was caught allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol, will be dealt with by his party.

It is understood the ward 23 councillor had recently smashed his vehicle into two stationary vehicles in Paarl.

He was arrested for drunken driving in January.

Drakenstein Municipality’s acting mayor Conrad Poole says the law will run its course.

“Political parties have their internal structures to deal with such incidents.”

He will appear in court on 7 August.
