MIDRAND - Five gang members suspected to be behind a spate of truck hijackings and vehicles and posing as members of the Johannesburg Metro Police and Gauteng traffic officials were arrested on Friday.

This follows a joint operation by members of the Flying Squad and Tactical Response Team.

The gang members were apprehended in Midrand, south of Johannesburg on Friday.

Police seized traffic officials’ uniforms, a jamming device and a 9mm pistols.

Two of their vehicles were impounded for further investigation. Police uniforms, radios and jam tracking signals were found inside the cars.

A tip-off led to the arrest.

One of the suspects is allegedly the ring leader of the gang.
