R8 crash case escalated
The Audi R8 crash that killed two people is now being investigated by the IPID.
JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng police on Wednesday dismissed reports that a docket concerning the deadly Audi R8 crash is missing.
The driver of the supercar and a police officer from Sandton were killed when the vehicle crashed along Oxford Road last week.
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) has taken on the case - but has reportedly battled to secure a copy of the docket.
Reports on Wednesday morning speculated the file had gone missing, but the police's Lungelo Dlamini said this is simply not true and the case was moved to provincial level.
“We are not hiding anything from the IPID. The case will be taken with all the relevant information that we have.”
Questions remain about what the officer was doing inside the car and whether claims that drugs had been found, are still being asked.
Details have also emerged about other officers asking supercar drivers for joyrides and bribes.
