JOHANNESBURG - Hundreds of fans gathered in Sandton on Wednesday outside the Nelson Mandela Square for the official 10-day countdown to the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon).
The tournament kicks off next weekend with a match between Bafana Bafana and Cape Verde at the National Stadium in Soweto.
Sports and Recreation Minister Fikile Mbalula was expected to address the crowds of soccer lovers who were ready to celebrate the upcoming games.
Football enthusiast in green and gold gathered in front of a huge stage, where they were entertained by loud music.
Some say even though Bafana lost in their preparation match on Tuesday they were excited about the upcoming tournament.
Over 300,000 tickets have been sold thus far.
The competition will take place between 19 January and 10 February.
