JOHANNESBURG - The Democratic Alliance on Tuesday said the Gauteng government performed slightly better in 2012 than it did the previous year.

The opposition party released its rating report card for Premier Nomvula Mokonyane and her cabinet for their 2012 performance.

Mokonyane scored five out of 10 from the DA for her performance as the head of the province which is up from the previous year’s four.

DA’s Gauteng caucus leader Jack Bloom said the single point increase is due to the decision taken to fire MEC Humphrey Memmezi after he was found to have abused state funds.

But Bloom said she still has a long way to go to get her cabinet to serve its citizens optimally.

“The problem with the premier is that there’s not enough time left for her to fulfil her many promises and she’s made lots of promises. She’s got a slightly better team than she had in the past. I think they have to deliver on what they promised.”

The highest score went to Education MEC Barbara Creecy for the increase in matric results.
