RUSTENBURG - The Sun City resort in the North West was on Sunday abuzz with discussions about who would be crowned the next Miss South Africa
One of the bevy of beauties will take over from Melinda Bam, during a glamorous pageant this evening.
It has been a long road for the finalists who spent this week exploring the resort and preparing for the spectacular event.
Although Bam is in Las Vegas and won’t officially be handing over her crown, the festive mood at Sun City was not been ruined.
The 24-year-old is there to compete alongside 84 other beauty queens from around the world for the Miss Universe crown and sash - she will take to the stage on 19 December.
Meanwhile, the annual Miss SA Teen pageant will not take place prior to the event as it previously did, after its cancellation was announced in October.
Sun International said the pageant had been struggling to attract sponsors for many years and that the decision to can the event had been on the cards for a while.
As a result of its cancellation, the age limit for the premier event was lowered to 18, in a bid to attract younger contestants.
Reigning Miss Teen Celeste Khumalo of Johannesburg is expected to attend tonight’s pageant as the last winner of the teen event.
The pageant will be broadcast on DSTV’s Mzansi Magic (channel 161) at 17.30pm.
