JOHANNESBURG - It's make or break for Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe's hopes of leading the ANC.

This comes as the party’s Gauteng province will on Thursday officially nominate who it will be backing for the ANC leadership position in Mangaung.

Provincial leaders have already said they want Motlanthe to win, but delegates representing branches will make the final decision over who the province will back.

Over the weekend the ANC in KwaZulu-Natal formally backed Jacob Zuma for a second term.

This means Kgalema Motlanthe's supporters need to get some momentum to stay in the race.
