CAPE TOWN - Stormers flank Schalk Burger on Wednesday conceded he had a horrible rugby year.
He has been on the sidelines since February with a knee injury which was then operated on.
Burger will start training with the team in January and is hoping to be fit for the Stormers’ first Super Rugby match in February.
He said he is itching to get back on the field.
“It’s hard but I’m getting through it. Obviously my appetite for rugby has grown immensely this year. It has been a horrible year rugby wise, but a fantastic one family wise because I became a dad.”
Burger also has commended the Springboks on their end of year tour.
The national team pulled off three less than convincing wins on their tour of the UK.
Burger said the team can only get better from here.
“We finished on a good note and we can build on from this. The three victories were fantastic.”
