CAPE TOWN – At least 20 people attending the Linkin Park concert at Cape Town Stadium have been injured after a temporary scaffolding structure was blown down by strong wind, the City of Cape Town said in statement on Wednesday.
Earlier, disaster management officials said between 10 and 14 people were injured in the incident.
Disaster management’s Wilfred Solomons-Johannes said the injured concert goers were treated on the scene.
“The current wind speed, as measured by the Cape Town weather service is between 40 and 45 kilomtres south east, at gale force.”
According to Solomons-Johannes, the board fell behind McDonald’s next to the stadium.
Media reports suggest that some of the injured were taken to hospital.
Emergency personnel initially said six people were injured in the incident.
