CAPE TOWN - Bafana will face a slightly weakened Norwegian side when they meet at Cape Town Stadium on 8 January 2013.
The English Premier League will be at its busiest during that period, meaning many top players will not be able to make the trip.
Bafana will use the fixture as preparation for the African Cup of Nations (Afcon) tournament later that month.
South African Football Association (Safa) CEO Robin Peterson said they were confident it would be a competitive game.
“The Norwegians are using this as an opportunity to prepare for their World Cup qualifiers. They’ve got a lot of young players that are on the brink of making it into the national team so I think it’s going to be a very competitive game.”
Peterson said players from mainly the Scandinavian leagues would be part of the Norway squad.
“They won’t be bringing their players from the English Premier League because that league will still be in action. They’ll bring the players that are based in the Scandinavian leagues or the Russian leagues and any of the leagues that close down over the winter season.”
The national team beat Norway 2-1 in a friendly game in April.
