CAPE TOWN – The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) was granted leave to appeal the bail of a Griekwastad teenager accused of murdering a family.
A Northern Cape High Court judge on Thursday granted the application.
In September, the 16-year-old was released on R5,000 bail.
The boy is accused of murdering Deon Steenkamp, his wife Christelle and their 14-year-old daughter Marthella on the family’s farm in April.
NPA provincial spokesperson Phaladi Shuping said, “We still need to meet with the judge president and with the legal team of the accused.
“It is only then that we will decide on a date for the appeal."
Steenkamp and his wife were both shot three times and their daughter was shot four times.
The teenager is set to go on trial in the Northern Cape High Court in March 2013.
