Lelo Mzaca | 01 October 2012 JOHANNESBURG - The South African Football Association (Safa) on Monday condemned the recent spate of hooliganism within South African football. The association called for those responsible to be charged. On Sunday, angry Mamelodi Sundowns supporters tore down barriers and knocked down the club dugout in protest against losing 2-0 to Moroka Swallows at the Dobsonville Stadium. Police and security had to escort coach Johan Neeskens after fans invaded the pitch. It was the club’s fourth defeat this season. Several Premier Soccer League (PSL) sides including Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates have also appeared in front of the league's disciplinary committee on charges of spectator misbehaviour. Safa President Kirsten Nematandani said hooliganism has no place in South African football. “We do not subscribe to hooliganism in our country. Anyone who is engaging in that should rather not set their foot in the stadium. We’re calling on club owners and the PSL to take stringent measures to deal with such people.” Nematandani said hooligans should be identified and banned. “People need to accept any outcome of the game.” (Edited by Lindiwe Mlandu)
