CAPE TOWN - Western Cape Community Safety MEC Dan Plato on Monday said he was concerned that far too many youngsters were dropping out of school to enter a life of crime.

He visited several communities plagued by gang violence earlier on Monday.

The MEC urged dropouts to return to the classroom.

Plato said the Education Department and Further Education Training (FET) colleges are supporting his campaign.

“The youths will receive a bursary and [a grant for] travelling costs.”

The province is plagued by gangsterism and high levels of crime.

Many youths drop out of school just to join gangs.
