CAPE TOWN - The current truck drivers strike affected the cash supply at some ATMs in Cape Town and Johannesburg on Saturday.

Members of the South African Transport and Allied Workers’ Union (Satawu) embarked on mass action on Monday to demand a 12 percent wage increase.

Some of the drivers working for cash van security companies also joined the stay away, which has had an impact on deliveries.

Banking Association of South Africa manager Stuart Grobler said, “It is not all banks that are affected. Costumers have to look around for ATMs that have been recharged.”

There have also been fears about fuel running out due to 'panic buying' from consumers.

Meanwhile, wage talks between unions and the Road Freight Employers’ Association are still continuing in an attempt to reach a settlement before the end of the weekend.

On Friday, the Labour Court interdicted trucker driver strikers from using intimidation and violence and from carrying weapons.
