Marc Lewis | 26 September 2012 JOHANNESBURG - Tickets for the 2013 African Cup of Nations (Afcon) officially went on sale on Wednesday. The ticket prices range from R50 to R200 for the more expensive seats in the stands. Fans can buy their tickets and special kiosks in selected Spar stores across the country or via the Local Organising Committee’s call centre on 087 980 3000. LOC Chief Executive Mvuzo Mbebe said it is all systems go ahead of the trading time. “We need to make sure that the stores open at the same time so that others do not have an unfair advantage. All the platforms will open at the same time.” The organising committee hopes to sell half a million tickets in total for the tournament. Mbebe said it is possible to meet their target. “I think we can meet it. One of the advantages is that you don’t have to wait to be in South Africa to buy the tickets. You can call through and buy the tickets and Super Spars exist in Botswana, Zambia and Zimbabwe, so people can buy the tickets there.” Mbebe added they not anticipating any technical problems with their electronic sales method. The tournament was initially meant to be hosted by Libya but due to the political instability in that country it was moved to South Africa. The games will be played at Johannesburg, Durban, Port Elizabeth, Nelspruit and Rustenburg. The tournament will run from 19 January to 10 February. (Edited by Lindiwe Mlandu)
