JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng Education MEC Barbara Creecy on Friday visited a Springs school on Gauteng’s East Rand after a pupil was found dead.

On Thursday, the grade 10 pupil was found hanging on school premises.

Creecy said the apparent suicide came as a shock to the department, and said learners and staff at Springs Girls High School underwent counselling.

The MEC said the department will continue supporting all those affected by the death.

The teenager will be buried in the Eastern Cape next week.

The school is also set to hold a memorial service.
