JOHANNESBURG –‘Sunday rapist’ Johannes Steyn on Wednesday said he knew God had already forgiven him and asked the rest of society to do the same.
Earlier, he was handed five life sentences and a further 170 years behind bars in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court.
On Tuesday, Steyn was found guilty of more than 30 charges including murder, rape and kidnapping.
During sentencing proceedings, Judge Sita Kolbe announced his jail terms would run concurrently.
In October 2011, Roodepoort teenager Louise de Waal’s body was recovered on a Magaliesburg farm.
Forensic evidence revealed she was burnt alive.
Steyn was sentenced to 15-years for his role in Lazanne Farmer's death after she jumped out of his moving bakkie.
Kolbe said Steyn will only be able to apply for parole after 25 years.
De Waal’s mother, Shireen, said she is pleased with the five life sentences but feels he should have been sentenced to 50 years for murdering her teenage daughter.
Some of the other victims’ family members said they finally received some closure and that the healing process can now begin.
Meanwhile, Steyn said the public must wait for a book he is writing for the real story of his attacks on young girls.
The convicted rapist and killer said he has been writing his life story while in custody and has already made significant progress.
He said he prayed to God to ask him to help his victims move on.
Earlier, a psychologist testified that some of his victims may never be able to lead normal lives.
Steyn told the court that the person who kidnapped the girls and raped them was a monster inside of him.
He claims he is trying to get rid of that monster.
