CAPE TOWN - Outgoing Home Affairs Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma on Wednesday urged the department's portfolio committee to keep pushing to transform the ministry.

She was honoured at a special farewell in Parliament, Cape Town.

In October, Dlamini-Zuma will head to Addis Ababa in Ethiopia after being elected chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission.

She is the first female to chair the body.

Dlamini-Zuma took a moment to compose herself before addressing the committee.

The tearful minister’s voice quivered as she told members it is fine to cry among friends.

She told committee members to keep government on its toes.

Dlamini-Zuma added without disagreements from opposition members, her job would have been boring.

A Democratic Alliance (DA) Parliamentarian lauded Dlamini-Zuma, saying she was always there for the committee.

Dlamini-Zuma assured the committee that she would never forget them.

MPs bid her farewell saying hamba kahle [go well].
