Wesley Petersen | 19 September 2012 CAPE TOWN - Former Ikeys captain and Varisty Cup star, JJ Gagiano, could make his Currie Cup debut for Western Province (WP) this weekend. The flank played for the United States at the 2011 Rugby World Cup and has been picked among the reserves for Saturday’s match against Griquas at Newlands. His call-up comes due to Tyrone Holmes’ suspension for foul play. Don Armand switches to the number seven jersey after playing lock last week. The move opens the door for WP Under-21 captain Wilhelm van der Sluys to earn his first Currie Cup start at lock. Fullback Joe Pietersen starts in the number 15 jersey after his return from injury last week. The Western Province match 22, announced by coach Allister Coetzee on Wednesday, sees Springbok Gio Aplon move to the left wing. In the front row, Coetzee has opted for the exciting young prop combination of Frans Malherbe and Steven Kitshoff ahead of the more experienced Brok Harris and Deon Carstens, who are both on the bench. Nic Groom is the reserve scrumhalf, behind Louis Schreuder, after starting two consecutive matches. In total, there are five changes to the starting 15. Pietersen, Schreuder, van der Sluys, Malherbe and Kitshoff all start this time. Fly-half, Gary van Aswegen, comes onto the bench due to Kurt Coleman’s broken jaw in his first match since the start of the season. Full team: 15. Joe Pietersen 14. Gerhard van den Heever 13.
