JOHANESSBURG - It emerged on Tuesday in court former crime intelligence head Richard Mdluli commissioned an internal investigation because he believed subordinates were trying to discredit him.

The claim has been heard during the inquiry into the murder of Vosloorus man Oupa Ramogibe at the Boksburg Magistrates Court.

Mdluli was charged with the crime, but this was withdrawn pending the outcome of this inquiry.

Mdluli has denied any involvement in the murder.

A newspaper report, three years ago, about Mdluli’s link to Ramogibe’s murder, prompted him to commission an internal investigation.

Mdluli mandated Major General Bobby Ntlemeza to investigate misconduct by junior staff members because he suspected there were attempts to tarnish his image.

Ntlemeza’s main finding is that there was a plot and it was to prevent Mdluli from being appointed as head of crime intelligence.

He said at the time, the Ramogibe family felt that the murder matter was closed and they complained about being pestered on the issue.

Ntlemeza said his report was submitted to Hawks head Anwa Dramat and a deputy national commissioner. Neither of whom challenged his findings.
