JOHANNESBURG – Teachers will now have to undergo a competency test in a bid to improve the grade 12 marking system, Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga revealed on Monday.
According to the department, educators will need to have at least five years experience teaching the subject.
Matric exam markers will also be chosen on an annual basis.
The department said teachers will have to achieve a pass mark of more than 60 percent if they want to be included as markers for 2012 exams.
The minister’s spokesperson Hope Mogatle said the proposed measures would be put in place in order not to disadvantage learners.
The decision was made in partnership with quality assurer Umalusi.
