Eyewitness News | 10 August 2012 JOHANNESBURG - President Jacob Zuma on Friday congratulated Mohamed al-Megaryef on his election as Libya's new leader. The Department of International Relation’s Clayson Monyela said Zuma is looking forward to working with the National Front Party in steering the country to a democracy. Libya's National Assembly held an election on Thursday and declared al-Magarief president. Monyela said the country has South Africa's full support. “President Zuma stated that South Africa looks forward to working with the new president of Libya and the electorate representatives of the National Assembly which has been tasked with naming a prime minister.” In 2011, Libya’s former leader Muammar Gaddafi was killed by rebels after ruling the country since 1969.
