Mathale must resign - SACP
The SACP has called for the resignation of Cassel Mathale.
JOHANNESBURG - Calls are mounting for Limpopo Premier Cassel Mathale to be axed, amid reports that he abused his office's travel claims system at taxpayers' expense.
The Star newspaper reports the premier parked his official cars, including a BMW 7 series and a BMW X5, so he could claim for using his private car for official duties.
The South African Communist Party (SACP) said Mathale has failed the poor and the working class and must be fired because of the mess in the province from education to health and to treasury.
It said the premier has become a national embarrassment to the tripartite alliance and government.
But the ANC in the province has rubbished the SACP's call saying it does not have any right to say Mathale must resign.
The auditor general has found that Mathale regularly accrued R466,000 between March and August in 2011 in wasteful and fruitless expenditure.
Meanwhile, five Limpopo departments were placed under administration in December after it was revealed that the province was bankrupt.
