Regan Thaw | 10 August 2012 CAPE TOWN - Following a day of violent protests and traffic disruptions in cape town on Friday, another demonstration has flared up along lower Klipfontein Road in Gugulethu. The police's Sharon Jephta said they hope to reopen the road soon. “Protesters have moved containers and rubble into the road. We have closed the road for the safety of motorists.” Earlier on Friday, hundreds of people blockaded roads prompting traffic officials to close a section of the N2 for 9 hours. An extensive section of a main road running through Nyanga and Gugulethu was heavily barricaded making it impossible for vehicles to pass through. An armoured police vehicle which struggled to maneuver through the barricades was showered with projectiles after it got through. Officers retaliated with rubber bullets sending people fleeing. The City of Cape Town speculates the protest may've been politically motivated, but this demonstrators disagreed. Several people have so far been arrested.
