CAPE TOWN - Police are questioning a Chinese national arrested during a massive abalone bust in Sunset Beach near Tableview during the early hours of Thursday morning.

They found several tons of abalone worth an estimated value of R12 million.

Eyewitness News was taken on a tour of the home.

One reporter nearly vomited as officers lifted the lid of a large boiler used to process the abalone.

The dirty bathtubs inside were also used to keep the abalone on ice. The fishy stench was unbearable.

Police are looking for a second suspect who is believed to be a man from the Middle East.

Officers said when they raided the house early on Thursday morning the Chinese national was armed with a large kitchen knife.
