'Motlanthe will wait for nomination'
Officals say Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe won’t engage in setting up leadership before Manguang.
JOHANNESBURG - Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe's officials said he has not spoken to anyone about any deal that would stave off a fight for the ANC's top job.
The Sunday Times at the weekend reported that Motlanthe would reject any offer to be a part of President Jacob Zuma's ticket at the ANC's National Elective Conference in December.
Motlanthe's spokesperson Thabo Masebe said the deputy president would not accept offers from anyone to arrange the leadership before the ruling party's conference.
“His view is that leaders should not get involved in canvassing… [but rather] respect the height of the [ANC] branches to conduct nominations.”
But Masebe also said people who see this as confirmation that there will be a leadership election between Motlanthe and Zuma are being mischievous.
