LADYBRAND - Ten cars, including three police vans, were damaged in a fire that swept through a police station in Ladybrand, in the Free State province.
Police spokesperson Constable Masilela Langa said preliminary investigations showed that Sunday’s blaze was caused by a veldfire.
He said the fire spread to the police’s SAP 13, a storage unit where stolen, or assumed stolen, vehicles are kept.
The police spokesperson said a case of arson was opened and said further investigations would reveal whether the fire was started on purpose or not.
He said police vehicles were not completely ruined and could be repaired.
