CAPE TOWN - A section of the N1 Highway between Beaufort West and Richmond has been reopened to traffic, following at least 48 hours of heavy snowfall.
The road was closed on Saturday and about 2, 000 vehicles and trucks were unable to move.
Following several efforts by traffic officials, the road was opened before 4p.m. on Sunday.
Western Cape traffic chief Kenny Africa said in-coming and on-coming traffic was moving slowly.
Traffic officers were assisting with getting traffic to flow again, he said.
Africa urged motorists to exercise caution while travelling on all roads from Beaufort West - due to high traffic volumes and flooding in other parts.
