JOHANNESBURG - An SMS reporting number has been established to help a task team audit the delivery of textbooks to schools in Limpopo.

Schools in Limpopo only received all of their learning material last week, after government failed to meet two deadlines imposed by the North Gauteng High Court and the applicants of the interdict instructing them to deliver textbooks.

Limpopo education was one of five departments in that province placed under administration in December 2011.

President Jacob Zuma has since established an audit team, headed by former higher education director general Mary Metcalfe, to determine whether all Limpopo schools have received textbooks.

As part of the audit, her team will follow paper trails and interview school teachers and principals.

Metcalfe on Saturday said she and her team were likely to work through the weekend to ensure the audit was completed within two weeks.

To speed up the audit process, Metcalfe said Limpopo schools who had not yet received all their learning material should communicate with her team via the SMS number: 32142.
