JOHANNESBURG - The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID)  on Friday said it was investigating the death of a 27-year-old man who was allegedly shot and run over by police in Mahikeng, North West.

It is alleged that police shot the man with rubber bullets during a service delivery protest this week.

The IPID’s Moses Dlamini confirmed the postmortem had been concluded and the matter was being investigated.

Meanwhile, six policemen who were arrested for sexual assault and house robbery have been granted bail of R1000 by the Durban Magistrates Court.

Five of them were arrested at the Cavendish police station this week, the sixth one handed himself over.

It is alleged that the suspects sexually assaulted one of their victims using a broken broomstick.
