DIEPSLOOT - Cabinet supports plans for a National Skills Academy for the Arts to cultivate young and creative talent in South Africa, Arts and Culture Minister Paul Mashatile said on Saturday.
Mashatile was addressing a youth imbizo at a school in Diepsloot, north of Johannesburg on Saturday.
The emphasis of the event was to encourage young people to tap into their creative talent.
Mashatile said government is committed to supporting aspirant local artists, musicians and designers.
“Arts and culture contributes to the economy. That is why when you see a board saying ‘Mzansi Golden Economy’ we are talking about arts and culture.”
The Arts and Culture Ministry has invested R19million in the 'Mzansi Golden Economy' initiative.
Mashatile said government is also working on a budget for a National Skills Academy for the Arts.
