JOHANNESBURG - A man shot and killed himself following a shoot out with the police at his house in Randfontein, west of Johannesburg on Saturday.
Police spokesperson Katlego Mogale said the shootout ensued when the cops searched the 59-year-old man's house and vehicle to look for illegal firearms.
The man barricaded himself in a room where he later shot himself dead.
Mogale said two members of the Community Policing Forum were also shot during the raid.
They are in a stable condition in local hospitals.
Mogale said two people were arrested.
“When police searched the vehicle parked at the house they found an unlicensed 9mm pistol. They also found right-wing material”
Police are investigating attempted murder charges and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
