CAPE TOWN - The two children killed brutally last week Wednesday in Hillview, Cape Town, were laid to rest on Saturday.

Owen Shanmugan allegedly slit the throats of his son and girlfriend's daughter before turning the knife on himself.

Shanmugan’s girlfriend found the three bodies in the shack where they lived after community members helped her break the locked front door to the shack, police said.

The boy and girl where found dead upon her arrival.

Shanmugan died a day later at the Groote Schuur Hospital after family members took him off life support.

Family and friends gathered to say their final goodbyes to Shaylin Petersen (4) and Lionel Shanmugan (2).

The Seawinds Community Hall was packed with several of their crèche playmates also in attendance.

There wasn’t a dry eye in sight, as everyone stared at the tiny pink and blue coffins placed next to each other at the front of the hall.

Large pictures and flowers were placed on top of the coffins.

With red and swollen eyes, Petersen’s mother Yolandi sat quietly through-out the service with a blank stare on her face.

The motive behind the murders has not been confirmed, but its alleged the 46-year-old man was abusive.
