JOHANNESBURG – Next week’s ANC policy conference will discuss limiting the amount of land individuals can own, Rural Development and Land Reform Minister Gugile Nkwinti said on Friday.
The minister made the comments at a New Age business breakfast in Sandton, north of Johannesburg.
He said the ruling party will make certain proposals to delegates next week.
“We want to limit the extent of holding, so that we don’t have huge pieces of land owned by a few. Whatever is above the threshold, [must be] distributed by the state.”
Nkwinti said they are looking at 30-year leases for state land.
The ANC said this issue will become more urgent as Land Act centenary approaches.
