JOHANNESBURG - A South African woman has been arrested in Bangkok after trying to smuggle two kilograms of crystal methamphetamine into Thailand on Wednesday.
She was charged with drug trafficking, a charge which carries the death sentence.
Narcotics police said Adelina Ononiwu was flying from Kenya to Cambodia, through Bangkok.
Officers found the drugs hidden in a secret compartment in her luggage.
The drugs have an estimated street value of R650,000.
Ononiwu claimed she was hired by a Nigerian man to deliver the luggage to Phnom Penh.
Her arrest comes only two days after South African Nolubabalo Nobanda was sentenced to 15-years in a Thai jail.
She was trying to smuggle 1.5 kilograms of cocaine in her fake dreadlocks back in December 2011.
