JOHANNESBURG - Former Bafana Bafana midfielder Quinton Fortune said the South African Football Association (Safa) should consider a foreign coach.

Earlier on Thursday, Safa commenced with the interviewing process in an attempt to fill the vacant post after Pitso Mosimane was sacked.

Officials want to complete the process before the end of June.

Fortune said only a coach with international experience could get the best out of Bafana players.

“We need a foreign coach that’s going to help the team. An international coach will know how to deal with international players.”

Fortune said this could help motivate the team.

“We need to use more of our overseas players. If we want to complete internationally, we need someone who understands the game.”

Former Bafana captain Neil Tovey, Gavin Hunt, Gordon Igesund and Steve Komphela are in the running for the job.

Bafana are under pressure to qualify for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

The national team has drawn two of their games against Ethiopia and Botswana.

On Friday, Bafana will take on Gabon at Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga.

Kickoff is at 8:30pm.
