JOHANNESBURG - The ANC’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting could discuss expelled Youth League leader Julius Malema’s political future.
The meeting is scheduled to take place on Monday afternoon.
The ANC Youth League (ANCYL) is hoping that the Malema’s fate will be discussed by the party’s top six.
But there is no word on whether the Malema issue was even placed on the agenda.
It remains to be seen whether the NEC will reduce Malema's sentence, this as his popularity dwindles.
Monday's meeting could be a test for both Malema and President Jacob Zuma's influence over the ANC's decision-making body.
The ANCYL said it was hoping for a political solution to the impasse.
In August, the League is expected to hold a national general council meeting to consider the issue.
The meeting may be a last-ditch attempt to save Malema's political career.
League spokesperson Magdalene Moonsamy told Eyewitness News, “We anticipate that for the interest of unity and cohesion, that these issues will be looked at and political solutions will be found.”
Meanwhile, the ANC said the agenda of the meeting was private.
