Sascoc announces preliminary squad

Sascoc announced its preliminary squad for the London 2012 Summer Olympics on Wednesday.

JOHANNESBURG - The South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (Sascoc) on Wednesday announced its preliminary squad for the London 2012 Summer Olympics.

Committee president Gideon Sam, Sascoc CEO Tubby Reddy and the Deputy Minister of Sports and Recreation Gert Oosthuizen unveiled the team.

Some athletes are still looking to qualify.

In a glamorous ceremony at Sascoc House in Houghton, athletes were greeted on stage with confetti and bright lazers.

Sam backed the squad which included swimming, rowing, boxing, beach volleyball, and track and field codes.

The Summer Games will kick off on July 27.
