JOHANNESBURG - A task team has been set up to help with the reinstatement of specialised sexual offences courts, acting National Director of Public Prosecutions Thoko Majokweni confirmed on Wednesday.
She was speaking at a sexual offences indaba in Johannesburg.
Majokweni said the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA)’s main objective was to prevent sexual offences and to ensure swift justice.
She said there is no point in reintroducing the specialised court if the conviction rate is not improved.
The directorate also wants to set up permanent forums for victims, Majokweni said.
This will help government and prosecutors to learn what they are doing right and what needs improvement, she said.
