JOHANNESBURG - Two Sandton police officers are under investigation for assault and wrongful arrest.
This after they were caught tackling a Bryanston resident and using pepper spray on him outside a complex last week.
The incident was captured on CCTV camera.
Ashley Cerqueira was allegedly pulled over twice by the same police officers in Sandton.
The first time he was accused of being drunk and a short while later, he was arrested for being in possession of dagga.
But Cerqueira claims the officers just wanted his cellphone because he had recorded a conversation in which they were trying to solicit a bribe from him.
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID)'s Moses Dlamini said, “We are currently investigating the matter. We became aware of it today [Monday] and we’ve taken over the docket from the police.”
