De Villiers named Bok captain
Stormers captain Jean De Villiers will lead the Springboks against England.
Durban - Stormers captain Jean De Villiers will lead the Springboks.
The announcement comes two days after new Bok coach, Heyneke Meyer, raised eyebrows, by naming a Bulls-dominated team for the three test series against England.
Meyer made the announcement in Durban on Monday afternoon.
De Villers told the press he only found out that he would lead the national side at around 11pm on Sunday.
De Villiers added it is 10 years since he made the debut for the Springboks, and he once again feels like the 21-year-old, when he got his first cap.
Meyer said de Villers’ humbleness has always impressed him.
The vice captain will be named when the squad is announced on Wednesday.
