JOHANNESBURG - A date has been set for the trial of student constable Sipho Mbatha who was accused of murdering 16-year-old Thato Makoka in Braamfischerville, Soweto in February.
Mbatha is accused of shooting Mokoka during a raid at his home.
The murder trial against the 41-year-old police constable will be heard in the South Gauteng High Court between the 23 July and 3 August.
He allegedly ordered the teen to lie down on his stomach and then shot him three times with an R5 riffle.
Police believed the teenager was part of a gang that terrorised school children in the area.
Mbatha maintained the shooting was an accident.
He will be moved to the Johannesburg Prison during the trial.
