CAPE TOWN - The Western Cape Government and the Traditional Affairs Department on Monday admitted that there were some serious service delivery problems in the Overberg town of Botrivier.

Officials from the national department met with residents and council officials from the town on Monday, after several hours of unrest.

They also accepted a memorandum which contained more than 30 grievances against their council.

Residents accused the Theewaterkloof Municipality of giving preference to areas where whites live, leaving black and coloured communities with no service.

Member of the local residents association Bongiwe Mkhwibisi said there was no change in their standard of living.

“We were called by the municipality for a budget review last November. They asked the community for a list of grievances, but nothing happened.”

Mkhwibisi said they needed answers.
