JOHANNESBURG - ANC officials and the Goodman Gallery will hold a joint press conference to discuss ‘The Spear’ painting, the ruling party said on Tuesday.
Artist Brett Murray’s controversial portrait shows the president with his genitals exposed.
Wednesday's briefing will take place at the gallery at 10am, ANC spokesperson Keith Khoza confirmed.
“It will deal with the details that were reached between the two parties."
Earlier on Tuesday, thousands of ANC protesters marched to Rosebank calling for the gallery to remove the artwork.
ANC Secretary General Gwede Mantashe told demonstrators that the gallery agreed to remove the picture from its website.
“The Goodman Gallery has watched your march and they committed to removing that portrait from their website.”
But the gallery said Mantashe’s claim did not accurately reflect the talks they had.
