CAPE TOWN - Residents of Botrivier outside Hermanus in the Cape, said on Monday, their local council only built four RDP houses since 2011.

Angry residents burned tyres inside the local municipal office.

Residents complained that their black and coloured communities are sidelined while white residents were given preference.

They claim even the contractor who built four houses was not paid.

They claim they want answers from officials.

The police's November Filander said about 700 people have been protesting since early on Monday morning.

"Some of the people burnt tyres. At this stage police are monitoring the situation. Two roads in Botrivier have been closed.”

A local businessman said he has been battling to get into Botrivier.

“It was difficult to get in. It was quite peaceful, but there are a lot of people blockading the road. At the top part of town, you can see they are burning some stuff.”
