CAPE TOWN - The ANC Youth League in the Eastern Cape on Tuesday said Premier Noxolo Kiviet failed to provide leadership for the embattled province.
The league now wants Kiviet to step down.
It said current problems in the province are mainly due to a lack of strong leadership.
The league held a media briefing in King William's Town.
The party also announced it will hold its provincial congress in July.
Eastern Cape secretary Nkosinathi Nomatiti said the situation in the province was bad.
“The provincial government in the Eastern Cape is in disarray that is demonstrated through the Department of Health and the Department of Education.”
Nomatiti said they have in the past met with the Premier over the matters.
“We have also spoken to the Premier about the challenges in the Department of Education. All those problems remain to this day and we don’t think we can continue to tolerate such weak leadership.”
Kiviet's spokesperson Manelisi Wolela told Eyewitness News they can only comment once they have seen the league's statement.
