JOHANNEBURG - The Eskom power grid will be under severe pressure this winter, as temperatures are set to drop over the next few months.
On Sunday, the parastatal said it had recorded a rise in power consumption, and appealed to citizens across the country to do their bit in saving electricity.
Saving electricity will help prevent a repeat of the many blackouts that crippled the country in 2008, it said.
Eskom’s spokesperson Hilary Joffe said some power stations will undergo planned maintenance over the next two months.
She said Eskom was working hard to keep electricity on during the scheduled maintenance dates.
